The Apple iPad, which has since it’s release sold 2 million.

We all know what the iPad is. We’ve all seen the television commercials, the epic speech given by Apple’s CEO, and the hundreds of news articles thrown at us about the new gadget, but are we taking this creation as seriously as we should?
The Apple iPad, which has since it’s release sold 2 million copies, is defined as a tablet computer consisting of a multitouch touchscreen, which runs the same operating system of the ever-so-popular iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s uses are stated to be for internet browsing, movies, games, various entertainment applications, and reading, and it also has an amazing battery duration of 10 hours; however, this computer is not as simple as it seems.

Since the beginning of the company, Apple has always pushed the envelope with their innovative ideas. It appears that their main initiative is to compete with current technology by 1, upgrading its aesthetic appeal, and 2, the most important factor, transforming it into a consumer product. Examples of this are blatant- first you have the transition of the geeky Windows desktop and laptop computer to the practically luxurious Mac desktop, laptop, and mini. Then there’s the transition of the simple mp3 player to the groundbreaking iPod, which later transformed into the Video iPod. Then the transition of cell phone to everything-in-one iPhone. All of these devices began with the single idea of existing, but Apple turned them into items of everyday use that we can’t live without. Now, finally, we have the big transformation: books to the Ipad. The question is, how did we get here?

The beginning of digitally rendered books was the ebook system. Readers could instantly purchase books online that could be read in PDF form. Soon after, the Kindle, a software and hardware platform developed by the company Amazon, was the first popular tablet made for digital reading. It was designed to run ebook files for easy, mobile reading; a seemingly better idea than carrying more than 1 real book at once. Then Apple looked at the Kindle and saw an opportunity.

They succeeded in all the aspects wherein the Kindle failed. Instead of focusing on the traditional values of the physically published book, Apple looked at how to turn books into a continually updated system, much similar to the busy online news, Facebook, and Twitter feeds we are all so enraptured by today. With the iPad, Apple has created a legitimate threat to the ebook and physical publishers market, and people are beginning to suspect that’s exactly what the company was aiming for in the first place. In light of these new realizations, the iPad could very well be the future of reading, as well as the death of books.

So the big day has come and the lines are forming again for the new iPhone 4. As the Apple fans line up, the rest of us are left to wonder if it is really worth it to upgrade from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4. Fortunately, this time the reviews are almost unanimous in confirming that the jump from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4 is truly dramatic.
There are so many improvements that listing them all would take a book rather than a simple article, but the key improvements are easy to see. The first thing that jumps out at anyone is the appearance of the phone, and that brings us to the numerous changes in the design. The new iPhone 4 uses a flat panel of high strength glass on the front and back of the phone, wrapped at the middle by a stylish aluminum alloy band that is actually a 5 band antennae. Early reviews confirm that this new design actually improves coverage and download speeds. It does result in signal loss if the phone is held tightly in the left hand, but this is easily avoided by using any of the many cases offered for the phone.
The next obvious improvement is the screen quality. Apple has spent a lot of time and effort designing what is easily the best screen on any mobile phone. There are some larger screens, but none that can match the iPhone 4 retina display for resolution or picture quality. This makes the iPhone 4’s new Face Time video calling feature even more enjoyable. The beautiful screen also allows you to show off the 5 megapixel camera. This new camera has been universally praised in the tech press for being very good in multiple lighting conditions. Side by side photo comparisons have shown that the iPhone 4 takes better pictures than many of the 8 megapixel cameras used by competing phones. When you add the ability to take HD video at 30 frames per second, you have a fantastic reason to upgrade from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4.
One huge feature that is not visible to the naked eye is the upgraded battery life on the iPhone 4. When you make the upgrade from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4 you will see an improvement of nearly 40% in overall battery life. This is one of the most important factors given by consumers when choosing a phone. The iPhone 4 also is able to take full advantage of all the features of the new iOS4. There are many more subtle improvements, but the reasons above should be more than enough to justify the upgrade from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4.

Many people waited for Steve Jobs to announce the latest edition of the iPhone at Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference in 2010. Featuring the latest operating system, and a new display, 1.7 million people had purchased the new iPhone in the first three days that it was available. Despite featuring new hardware, and a new chat program that used the two available camera’s on the new iPhone, it was still plagued with problems about having a lackluster signal. Many people complained about the Apple iPhone 4 signal problems.

The lower left corner of the iPhone 4 is sensitive to human skin, so much that the service may drop if the phone is held on that side. Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, responded by telling people to avoid holding their phone in a way that causes this to happen. He says that all phones have sensitive owners, and that iPhone 4 owners should not hold their phone in the bottom left corner. After more than enough confrontation Job’s provided the following statement:

“Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.”

As of July 2, 2010 there have been a group of people looking to sue Apple for what they feel is negligence on Apple’s part. The group feels as though Apple knew about the iPhone 4 signal problems before it was released. On the same day, Apple announced that they had discovered the source of the issue to lead to a drop in service and that they would be releasing a software update to fix the mistake. In the meantime Apple has released a case that prevents users from making contact with the bottom left corner of the phone. A reported alternative to this is to place a small strip of duct tape over the left side.

Although the iPhone 4 is suffering from connection problems, it is the most advanced iPhone to date. With an all new operating system, and many hardware upgrades, it provides users with a smart phone that can help them accomplish anything.

Deciding what Apple Mac Computer or laptop is most practical for your needs can be a daunting task. This guide will walk you through your Apple Mac Computer or Laptop decision and what factors you should take into account when purchasing your new Apple Mac Computer or Laptop.

Here are 5 questions you should ask when deciding between an Apple Mac Computer and Laptop:

• Will the Computer or Laptop be used primarily at home or when you travel?
• Will you use your Apple Mac Computer or Laptop for personal uses (e-mail, pictures, internet, etc.) or will you use it for work (creating documents, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.)?
• Do you have Wi-Fi at home or where you travel?
• Will you be the only user of the Apple Mac Computer or Laptop?
• What is your budget for a new Apple Mac Computer or Laptop?

You will most likely want to swing towards an Apple Mac Laptop for traveling and leisurely home use. Now that you have a clear direction on your need of an Apple Mac Laptop, you should choose the uses for your new Laptop. For personal uses (e-mail, pictures, internet, etc.), my suggestion would be an Apple Mac 13” MacBook or Apple MacBook Air. Deciding between the two is primarily a decision of form over function. The MacBook Air is very thin, light weight, yet still very powerful for personal users. The 13” MacBook is larger and a bit more powerful. Both the MacBook 13” and the MacBook Air Laptops come with Wi-Fi, and both support multiple users. The price on both these Apple Laptops will fit happily into your budget.

If you answered “work” to the 2nd question, then a MacBook Pro is in your future. The Apple MacBook Pro Laptop comes in 13”, 15”, and 17” versions. My suggestion for a traveling work companion is the 15” Apple Macbook Pro Laptop. It’s very stylish, powerful and practical. If you like more power and don’t mind the bump in size and weight, the 17” MacBook Pro is a stellar Apple Mac Laptop for work.

Now, if you are looking for a Home computer for work or personal use, my suggestion is the Apple iMac Computer. You can get a 21.5” or 27” screen and the iMac comes with all the software and hardware you need to get up and running.

Whatever your needs, and whatever you choose, any Apple Mac Laptop or Computer will provide years of productivity and pleasure.

On September 1, 2010, Apple unveiled the latest iteration of Apple TV. Apple TV is something that Steve Jobs has always treated more as a hobby, a sideline rather than something that Apple wanted to focus on. That has changed now, possibly due to threats that Google would be introducing their own Google TV device.

But what are the differences between the old and new Apple TV? The first thing that you notice is that the new Apple TV is quite a bit smaller than the old box – it fits in the palm of your hand. The main thing that contributes to the size reduction is the complete absence of any internal storage in the new Apple TV. All content will now be rented and streamed via wireless internet connection from the Apple TV Store to the Apple TV device. Old versions of Apple TV had either a 40GB or 160GB hard drive, and content was purchased rather than rented. Apple has also cut the price from $299 to $99 on the new version.

The size, storage, and price changes are the major differences between the old and new versions of Apple TV. There are a lot more changes under the hood, however. The latest Apple TV runs Apple’s iOS 4, while it’s predecessor runs a modified version of Apple OS X 10.4. The processor and graphics on the new Apple TV are both changed – the processor is an ARM Cortex-A8 and the video is PowerVR SGX535, both on the Apple A4 chip. One drawback to the new Apple TV that should be noted: there is no component video connection, just HDMI, and there is likewise no RCA audio output, just optical audio and HDMI. Power consumption has been cut thanks to the lack of internal storage from the 48W power supply of the old Apple TV to a mere 6W power supply in the new.

The inability to buy movies and TV shows will disappoint some users, but the ability to rent TV shows at .99 per episode will encourage more people to use the Apple TV service. The $99 price tag moves Apple TV out of the realm of the exotic gadget and into the realm of the affordable household device.
